Functional safety guaranteed

Leine & Linde has an encoder to ensure functional safety: FSI 800 is the incremental encoder with HCHTL signals (High Current HTL) for use in installations in accordance with SIL2/PLd, Level 3.

Thanks to the integrated safety solution, a second encoder or sensor is not required to meet redundancy requirements. This saves space and reduces the number of cables required. This reduces the system's susceptibility to environmental factors, interference and wear. In critical applications, such as in the steel or paper industry, where production runs around the clock, operators must be able to access the machines while they are running. This requires protection in accordance with SIL2/PLd at type C standard to comply with machine guidelines. In such applications, the encoders simplify the functional safety of systems. The square-wave signals are monitored internally in the encoder. If a fault is detected, the encoder signals switch to safe mode or indicate the fault via the status output. Safe stop or safe reduced speed can also be implemented.
