Siemens Makes 'Sinumerik One' AI-Capable
Siemens has unveiled a new generation of hardware for the Sinumerik One CNC control system. The platform offers greater computing power, a 64-bit architecture, and is designed to meet the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act. It also lays the groundwork for the use of industrial AI.
Siemens has unveiled a new generation of hardware for its "Sinumerik One" CNC control system. The focus is on new NCU and PLC processors that enable greater computing power as well as faster communication and data processing.
The new models include the “NCU 1740.2” and “NCU 1760.2.” They are complemented by a new PLC-ASIC, a hardware module developed specifically for PLC functions. Among other things, this module expands Profinet functionality and is designed to ensure long-term availability and support.
According to the company, users in networked manufacturing environments benefit from greater performance reserves and faster data processing.
64-bit architecture for AI applications
With its new 64-bit architecture, Siemens is positioning Sinumerik One for data-intensive applications. It serves as the technical foundation for integrating AI functions and connecting to analytics, cloud, and edge systems.
This is intended to make it easier to integrate machines into data-driven applications, such as those for process optimization, quality improvement, or predictive maintenance. The platform is also designed for the use of industrial AI applications.
New graphical user interface architecture
A new graphics processor enables modern user interfaces with advanced visualization capabilities. This allows machine manufacturers to implement customized HMI concepts and simplify the operation of their systems. Siemens expects this to result, among other things, in shorter setup times and reduced training requirements.
Based on the Cyber Resilience Act
According to the company, the new generation of hardware was developed to meet the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). These include, in particular, the ability to receive updates over the long term, as well as additional security mechanisms made possible by the increased computing power.
Furthermore, according to Siemens, the entire Sinumerik portfolio is designed to meet the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act and is therefore CRA-ready.
