Operating cobots safely

AMO's measuring devices measure position values with deviations of less than 1 µm per signal period, which enables precise positioning of robot axes and thus the safe operation of cobots in close proximity to human workers.

The position values determined by the encoders are also redundant - two independent values are generated in the encoder for each measurement. In this way and through the additional transmission of error bits to the higher-level control system, measurement errors are eliminated. The absolute encoders have been certified for use in safety-related applications.

As a service for robot manufacturers, the encoders have a so-called mechanical fault exclusion: the safe mechanical connection of the encoders to the drive unit of numerous applications has been tested and confirmed by a type examination. This eliminates this process for robot manufacturers. According to AMO, the absolutely functionally safe encoders are equipped with purely serial single-encoder interfaces (EnDat 2.2 or Drive CLiQ).
