Lukas Dehling,

On the road to success

The embedded scene will meet in Nuremberg from February 27 to March 1. The 16th edition of Embedded World is expected to set new records - both in terms of exhibitors and exhibition space.

According to organizer NürnbergMesse, special highlights of embedded world 2018 are the themed special shows. Visitors to the 'displays area' in Hall 1 can look forward to innovations in display technologies, flexible displays, graphical user interfaces, human-machine interfaces, touchscreens and 3D displays. In the M2M Area in Hall 3, exhibitors will be showcasing their latest products and applications for machine-to-machine communication. How can users protect hardware, software and embedded systems against attacks? Visitors can find out in the 'safety & security area'. Whether security for hardware and software (safety), protection against external attacks or against piracy (security) - the exhibitors cover all areas. Young companies will also have the opportunity to showcase themselves at the trade fair at a joint stand in Hall 4A sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

The accompanying congresses

According to the organizers, the prospects for the conferences taking place parallel to the trade fair - the 'embedded world Conference' and the 'electronic displays Conference' - are also good. The motto of the former this year is "Embedded Goes Autonomous". In addition to a separate conference focus on this topic, 'Embedded Vision' - computer-aided image processing - is very strongly linked to autonomy applications. In total, the 2018 program is divided into seven conference clusters: Internet of Things, Embedded Vision, Autonomous Systems, Security & Safety, Embedded OS, Hardware Engineering and Software & Systems Engineering.

In the keynote speech on day 1, Mark Papermaster, CTO of AMD, will talk about "Evolving embedded systems in a self-directed world". Andrea Martin from IBM will give the keynote "Industry Solutions with the Internet of Things" on day 2 of the conference.

Highlights of the electronic displays conference are the keynotes on display trends and OLEDs, the three sessions on automotive displays. There will also be sessions on touch, measurement technology, AR/VR and applications and optimization. The proven author interviews after each session offer the opportunity to discuss what has been heard in a small group.

The panel discussion "Safe for the Future" is taking place for the third time as part of embedded world. The event will focus on the protection of networked embedded systems in the Internet of Things. The panel discussion will take place at 3 p.m. in Forum Hall 3A.

The Student Day will also take place again this year. Dr. Christoph Kucklick, editor-in-chief of GEO magazine, will give a talk on the joys and dangers of being an engineer.
