Congatec takes over Real-Time Systems
Congatec, a supplier of embedded boards and computer modules, has acquired the Ravensburg-based company Real-Time Systems (RTS). The latter was founded in 2006 and specializes in hypervisor software for real-time applications in the embedded market.
Following the takeover, RTS will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Congatec, but will continue to operate independently. This means that RTS will continue to do business as before and offer software that runs on any x86 hardware. However, this will now include worldwide sales and technical support for the product.
Jason Carlson, CEO of Congatec, explained on the occasion of the announcement of the acquisition at embedded world in Nuremberg: "It is our strategy to simplify the use of embedded computing technology. As the connected IIoT and Industry 4.0 world becomes increasingly complex, investing in software is one of the key strategic levers to achieve this goal. The opportunity to acquire a market-proven and established hypervisor technology that perfectly meets the requirements for IIoT and Industry 4.0 is an important milestone for Congatec." Gerd Lammers, CEO of Real-Time Systems, adds: "We are very confident that our customers will benefit from our combined forces as we now have the opportunity to grow faster, expand our offering to new markets and extend our services globally."
Real-Time Systems' customers include OEMs from markets such as robotics, automation, mechanical engineering, medical technology and test and measurement technology. New markets are also emerging from the increasing real-time requirements of IIoT and Industry 4.0 applications as well as in real-time broadcasting and streaming. The customer base also includes manufacturers of embedded computer technology who qualify their platforms for the RTS hypervisor.
