Positioning systems
One 2D camera is enough
The PXV 2D absolute positioning system from Pepperl+Fuchs has a reading window measuring approximately 120 mm x 80 mm, which means that the data matrix code band always remains within the detection range.
The reading window with enlarged depth of field captures several codes simultaneously and additionally secures the position determination through multiple redundancy. The system only requires one 2D camera for this. As a certain amount of soiling of the code tape is often unavoidable in day-to-day operations, the codes for the positioning system have been enlarged to 15 mm x 15 mm while maintaining the same high resolution. With their 'coarse-grained' design, they are insensitive to soiling. Thanks to redundant detection, the system is not even disturbed by the destruction of individual codes; the code band can be interrupted up to a distance of 80 mm without affecting position detection. With the safePXV, all this is achieved by a single positioning system with just one sensor. The new safety technology combines a 2D read head with a three-color DataMatrix code tape. The special code tape contains two overlapping DataMatrix codes in red and blue. The 2D read head is equipped with two differently colored LED rings - also in red and blue. These are activated separately and then only read one DataMatrix code at a time. The result is always a SIL 3/PLe absolute position.
