BMW orders 3,500 robots from Fanuc

Future BMW models will be manufactured using Fanuc robots. The companies signed a framework agreement for 3,500 robots for new production lines. The first robots were already installed in 2019.

Fanuc and BMW have signed a framework agreement for the delivery of 3,500 robots. In future, these will be used in new production lines and plants for the production of current and future BMW models. According to the announcement, the first robots were already installed in 2019, with further robots to follow in the coming years. Various models will be used, including robots specially developed to meet the requirements of the automotive group. The various models are primarily used in body-in-white production and in the manufacture of doors and hoods.

"Winning this project is an important milestone for Fanuc as a strategic partner of the BMW Group," says Ralf Winkelmann, Managing Director of Fanuc Germany. "We are investing sustainably in our product development and expanding our service network to support our customers all over the world. We will continue to develop new technologies in the future that will make vehicle production even more modern and efficient with the help of intelligent robots, among other things."
