A new addition to the program is a presentation by Wilhelm Viessmann, BMW Group:
"New challenges for car manufacturers vs. security of supply for electronic components". Learn more about the tension between the automotive ACES (Autonomous/Connected/Electrified/Shared) challenges and securing the supply of electronic components.

Since the allocation of MLCCs and the increased delivery times for other passive components in the last two years at the latest, everyone should have realized that passive components are not simply always available, but that technology and project management are also essential in this product area. Even if the market situation has eased somewhat at the beginning of this year, there is still no sign of the all-clear; on the contrary, procurement problems are likely to intensify again from the end of the second quarter of 2019.

Once the required passive components have finally been obtained and inserted into the layout, it quickly becomes apparent that capacitors, resistors, inductors and other passive components sometimes have a life of their own. In real applications, they sometimes behave somewhat differently than the idealized properties of the catalog documents or the data sheet would have you believe. Conclusion: The behavior of passive components in real applications is primarily determined by material science aspects.

Against this background, it can certainly do no harm to bring your knowledge of passive components up to date at a clearly focused specialist congress. Especially when speakers with practical experience from well-known manufacturers and service providers pass on their know-how and knowledge to interested parties in the form of practical tips and advice. This is precisely the practice-oriented objective of the 'Passive for Professionals' user forum, which is taking place for the fourth time this year on July 2-3.

As organizers, Markt&Technik and DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK are addressing the user forum primarily to circuit and system developers in the DACH region, but also to component buyers. This event offers them the opportunity to find out about the special features and properties of capacitors, resistors, inductors and other passive components from a manufacturer-independent perspective. In terms of application technology, the presentations will focus on industrial electronics, medical technology, communication technology, automotive and renewable energies.

As in previous years, the event is being organized in close cooperation with well-known partners such as Würth Elektronik eiSos, Vishay Intertechnology and Jianghai Europe Electronic Components. As in previous years, the two-day event will be accompanied by a table-top exhibition of various manufacturers and suppliers of passive components. The 23 presentations will also include three intensive 45-minute seminars, which will deal in detail with the special features of capacitors, resistors and inductors.

23 speakers from 15 companies

A total of 23 speakers from 15 companies will contribute their knowledge and experience to the event - in line with the motto "Professionals train professionals". Coffee and lunch breaks as well as a get-together on the evening of the first day of the event offer the opportunity to deepen what has been heard, ask questions and make new, interesting contacts while networking.

This year's event will be opened by Jean Quecke, Sales Director (IPE) Central Europe at Future Electronics, who will present a review of the MLCC allocation of the past year and offer an outlook on the future of the MLCC market from a macroeconomic and technical perspective. The second keynote speech of the event, which will be held by Martin Barta, TTI and Dr. Tomas Zednicek, founder and director of the European Passive Components Institute, will also deal with trends and challenges in the field of capacitors.

Following last year's success, there will once again be a panel discussion on the first day of the event. This time, the topic will be downsizing. A buzzword or an unavoidable necessity in order not to lose out in terms of development and security of supply?

Simon Scherer, Strategic Purchasing Manager Electronics at ebm-papst, believes that last year's 'Passives for Professionals' user forum offered "a good opportunity to find out about new trends among manufacturers and to discuss the tense situation on the procurement market". - "For me as a former hardware designer and current cost engineer, it was a very nice refresher for my personal knowledge," commented Gerrit Schmallenberg, Cost Engineer at BMW, on his visit to the user forum last year.

Take advantage of the early bird discount and register online by May 16! You can also find out about travel options and hotel recommendations for the event on the homepage. The venue for the event is the Hyperion Hotel in Munich on July 2-3. It has excellent connections to Munich's public transportation and highway network.
