Process control systems
Based on edge computing
The Aprol process control system from B&R can be installed and operated in the cloud in the future - it can be installed on virtual computers from all common cloud providers.
The data is pre-processed and compressed by a local Aprol installation so that only meaningful data is sent to the cloud database. This approach, which is based on the concept of fog or edge computing, keeps data traffic costs low. The system supports the MQTT, AMQP and OPC UA protocols. The number of local installations that send data to a central cloud system is not limited. The evaluations of the business intelligence solutions of local and cloud-based installations are retrieved via a REST interface. According to the manufacturer, the system architecture with local installations and an installation in the cloud prevents unwanted access from the internet and guarantees maximum security for the system. At the same time, all evaluation, reporting and business intelligence functions are also available in the cloud. Optionally, the contents of the database can also be evaluated by the cloud provider's big data analysis tools. When installed in the cloud, the mechanisms for parallel and concurrent engineering are also available.
