Breakthrough in 3D printing
Siemens continues to make progress in 3D printing: The company announces the first successful test for additively manufactured gas turbine blades under full load.
During the successfully completed tests, Siemens tested several turbine blades produced using additive manufacturing (AM). The company tested turbine blades with a conventional blade design as well as a new blade design with a completely revised and improved internal cooling geometry. The blades used were manufactured by Materials Solutions in the UK, which Siemens had only recently acquired.
"Additive manufacturing is an important pillar of our digitalization strategy. The successful tests are the result of an international project team consisting of Siemens engineers from Finspang, Lincoln and Berlin as well as the experts from Materials Solutions," said Willi Meixner, CEO of the Siemens Power and Gas Division.
