Siemens reorganizes its mechanics division

The market environment for mechanical drives is currently difficult. Siemens therefore intends to set up its Mechanical Drives division as an independent company under the Siemens umbrella in the future in order to expand its scope for action and strengthen its business-specific focus.

Weak growth, increasing competition from Asia and overcapacities with the associated high price pressure - this is how Siemens currently sees the market environment for mechanical drives, which is characterized by medium-sized companies. According to Jürgen Brandes, CEO of the Siemens Process Industries and Drives Division, the corresponding Siemens Mechanical Drives (MD) division "has already significantly improved its competitiveness in the last two years, focused on its core business and, among other things, created its own sales organization, which ensures significantly greater customer proximity." Nevertheless, the next step to further improve competitiveness is to establish the company as an independent unit. With the Flender and Winergy brands, MD is primarily present in applications with high torques, for example in the wind and cement industries.

In total, the Mechanical Drives division employs around 6,000 people worldwide and is part of the Process Industries and Drives division. The industry spectrum includes key industries such as wind energy, cement production, marine, conveyor and crane technology.
