RFID system replaces key switch

IoT capability and easy-to-use protection against unauthorized operation are also becoming increasingly important for classic switches and buttons. Schlegel is therefore presenting an RFID system at SPS Connect that can replace key switches on machines and systems.

"Electromechanical control elements will continue to adapt to the need for simple and user-friendly operation," explains Torsten Singer, Product Manager at Schlegel Elektrokontakt. "In addition, topics such as IoT and AI will also find their way into pushbuttons and switches."

It is no coincidence that the company's presence at the trade fair will be dominated by its new RFID system, which offers a contactless and secure way of operating machines in a similar way to key switches or managing access authorizations. The system can replace or supplement conventional key switches for operating machines. The system is based on a reader and a transponder (tag) with a microchip in which large amounts of data can be stored.

RFID technology can be used to manage access authorizations for protected company areas without the need for a key system. In addition, a lost RFID tag ('key') can be quickly and easily removed from the system and replaced with a new one.
Three different RFID systems are available: 'RFID Standard' for special requirements, 'RFID SKS' for simple and quick integration in areas with lower requirements and 'RFID TMS' for flexible use in areas with complex requirements.
