Transformation into an independent company

Siemens division becomes Flender GmbH

"Flender GmbH, a Siemens Company": This is the name under which the Siemens Mechanical Drives division will be launched as an independent company on October 1, 2017.

This independence is intended to give the future Flender GmbH greater flexibility and more room for maneuver.

The future Flender GmbH, headquartered in Bocholt, is a global supplier of mechanical drive technology components and produces at eight locations with a total of more than 6,000 employees. The product range extends from gearboxes and couplings to drive applications and the corresponding services.

Various industries are addressed, such as wind energy, cement production, marine, conveyor and crane technology. The business with gear units for wind turbines will also be part of Flender, but will continue to operate on the market under the Winergy brand.

Siemens has decided to run the Mechanical Drives division as an independent, wholly-owned subsidiary in order to enable a stronger business-specific focus and thus be able to implement growth plans more quickly and flexibly. The reorganization should be completed by mid-2018.

The naming and history

A. Friedrich Flender AG was founded in Düsseldorf in 1899 and originally produced wooden pulleys. In the decades that followed, the company developed into a leading manufacturer of gearbox solutions.

Siemens took over Flender in 2005 and incorporated the company into the Group as the "Mechanical Drives" division.
