Siemens and UL Solutions digitize certification process

For the first time, an industrial product was certified for the USA after some of the required tests were digitally simulated and the results confirmed by physical tests. This was made possible with the help of the digital twin.

Siemens and UL Solutions have set themselves the goal of digitizing the certification process for industrial products required in the United States. In the past, extensive physical tests were necessary for product certification. Digital twin-based simulation simplifies the process, according to Siemens and UL Solutions: The process seamlessly integrates the capabilities of Siemens' digital twin; UL Solutions guides this transformational approach and navigates the certification process.

According to Siemens, the use of digital simulations makes it possible to gain "insights into the product with unprecedented speed and precision". The benefit: lower certification costs, faster time to market in the US, and seamless integration of digital modeling tools.

The first industrial product to be certified using the digital twin is the Siemens Sinamics G220 drive controller.
