Formula Student Germany
Autonomous racing cars planned
The international design competition 'Formula Student Germany' is to be expanded in 2017 to include a technical discipline for driverless racing cars. The organizer is relying on concept proposals from the universities for implementation.
In addition to the existing 'Formula Student Combustion' (vehicles with combustion engines) and 'Formula Student Electric' (vehicles with electric drives) categories, the organizer wants to introduce the new category 'Formula Student Driverless' (vehicles without drivers). To this end, Formula Student Germany is calling on interested students to submit their concept for such an additional competition. The focus should be on the answers to the following questions: What demands can the new competition realistically place on the university teams? What technical features can be integrated into a Formula Student car? Which driving tasks are the best way to test the quality of the design and execution of the driverless racing car? The three best proposals will receive prize money of 3000, 2000 and 1000 euros.
Anyone wishing to take part in the concept competition is asked to register with Formula Student Germany by March 7 with a short draft. The finalized concept must then be submitted by mid-June. Further details on the 'Formula Student Driverless' concept competition can be found on the Formula Student Germany website. The concepts can be seen at this year's competition from August 9 to 14 at the Hockenheimring. This year, 115 teams from 34 countries have qualified: 75 teams are competing in 'Formula Combustion' and 40 in 'Formula Student Electric'.
