Endress+Hauser takes over Blue Ocean Nova

Endress+Hauser is further expanding its portfolio of products, solutions and services for process analysis - most recently with the acquisition of Blue Ocean Nova on October 31, 2017.

"The intelligent process sensors developed by Blue Ocean Nova add a strategically important component to our existing range in the field of process analytics," says Dr. Manfred Jagiella, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser Conducta and also responsible for the analysis business on the Group's Executive Board.

Blue Ocean Nova, based in Aalen, Baden-Württemberg, currently employs 15 people and manufactures inline spectrometers for monitoring quality-relevant process parameters. The company will come under the umbrella of the Endress+Hauser Competence Center for Liquid Analysis based in Gerlingen near Stuttgart. Both parties have agreed not to disclose details of the transaction. Blue Ocean Nova was founded in 2015 by Joachim Mannhardt and Stefan Beck. Both will continue to be members of the company's management board.

Blue Ocean Nova's process sensors cover the ranges relevant for optical spectroscopy (UV/VIS, NIR and MIR) for the inline analysis of liquids, gases and solids. This technology enables the spectrometer to be integrated directly into the measuring probe - even in potentially explosive atmospheres. In addition, the sensors can be cleaned automatically and integrated directly into process control systems.

The systems are used in the food industry, the oil and gas sector, the chemical industry and in the life sciences to measure concentrations and moisture as well as to determine relevant quality parameters. Endress+Hauser's current portfolio includes Raman spectrometers, absorption spectrometers with tunable diode lasers and process photometers.
