According to Schmersal, the SRB-E product series - as well as the compact safety controller 'Protect Select' - combine a high level of safety with ease of operation and flexibility. This makes them particularly suitable for elevators in wind turbines that fall under MRL 2006/42/EC and which are subject to new safety requirements as a result of the changes to the EN 81-44 standard.

An important new feature is that safety-related parts of the control system must now comply with PL d in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1. According to the supplier, this safety level can be easily achieved with both product ranges. Combined with position switches and other safety components, functions such as the monitoring of elevator doors in wind turbines, overload protection, direction monitoring and end stops can be implemented.
