Inka Krischke,

IT and OT in view at the same time

As the backbone of digital transformation, data centers have long been part of the business-critical infrastructure for companies. Rittal and Paessler now enable IT and OT monitoring in a joint solution.

Paessler and Rittal are simplifying the live overview of IT and OT at a glance by combining their monitoring solutions 'Paessler PRTG' and 'Rittal CMC III' as part of the Paessler Uptime Alliance program. This allows users to see what is 'running' in their IT and OT simultaneously in one tool - in a central dashboard for IT and data center OT, in individually configurable dashboards or as a service-based management overview.

Paessler PRTG integrates and monitors IT systems and thus contributes to the early detection of their failures. Failures caused by physical risks to the OT should also be prevented: a cable fire, a burst water pipe or even an open door must be detected immediately. Thanks to the connection with CMC III, PRTG users can see such incidents immediately and receive alerts if required. CMC III monitors all relevant physical environmental parameters, from moisture to vandalism.

PRTG users can activate the function with just a few clicks. With the help of the predefined SNMP Rittal CMC III Hardware Status Sensor in PRTG and the automatic network detection, existing CMC III infrastructure can be included in the central monitoring. Using the generic sensors in PRTG, the measured values of the sensors and thus the entire data center environment can be integrated into PRTG via various protocols. In addition to SNMP, Modbus TCP or OPC UA can also be used for this purpose.

Building floor plans or server cabinets can be mapped graphically and the devices and associated measured values can be displayed clearly. QR codes generated in PRTG make it easier to assign the measured values on site: the technician simply scans the QR code on the device and sees the associated values, including history, directly on their laptop or smartphone.
