An Intel Celeron processor in combination with a 2 GB RAM enables edge computing. Such a decentralized network structure saves bandwidth, license fees and offers more real-time capabilities, as the latency times for transmission to the Internet are eliminated. If there is an interruption in data transmission to the central IoT platform, the data remains stored in the gateway for later transmission. The container technology 'Docker' can be used to pack company applications with all the files required for operation into a portable system, the container. The security gateway also has a wide range of connectivity options: WiFi (802.11ac), 3G or 4G, Ethernet, Serial (RS232/485) and Digital Input/Digital Output (DI/DO). The device is suitable for operation at temperatures from 0 °C to +60 °C. Endian 4i Edge X encrypts all data via VPN. The connected machines are protected by a firewall, a deep packet IPS/IDS system and layer 7 filter functions are part of the security concept. The gateway can also be installed behind an existing firewall in order to segment networks. The connection works bilaterally. This means that the security gateway is also suitable for secure remote access: users are only granted access to data and functions with prior authorization.
