Robotics - the development up to 2019

More than 1.4 million new robots will be installed worldwide by 2019 - according to the latest forecast by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). What are the drivers of growth? How are the individual sales markets and regions developing?

In its annual statistics, the IFR compares data from around 40 countries, broken down by application areas, industrial sectors, robot types and other technical and economic aspects.

According to the IFR forecast, the number of new industrial robots installed worldwide this year will increase by 14% to 290,000 units by the end of 2016. Further global growth of at least 13% per year on average (CAGR) is expected for 2017 to 2019. In terms of technological trends, companies will focus in particular on human-machine collaboration, simplified applications and lightweight robots in the future. Two-arm robots, mobile solutions and the simpler integration of robots into existing environments will also play a role.
