Kuka cuts 250 jobs
The mechanical engineering group Kuka plans to cut 250 jobs at its headquarters in Augsburg. The jobs affected are in the 'Systems' division - the plant engineering division, as confirmed by a spokesperson on November 18, 2017.
Kuka currently employs 750 people in its Systems division. After its reorganization, there will still be 500. A total of 4000 employees work at the Augsburg site and the Group has 14,000 employees worldwide.
The 'Augsburger Allgemeine' initially reported on the planned job cuts, citing Group CEO Till Reuter. Kuka is now negotiating with the works council about socially acceptable measures for affected employees, the spokesperson said. Some of them could be kept on in the Group, for example in the well-performing robotics division. For others, partial retirement or voluntary redundancy could take effect.
The 'Systems' division produces systems for car body construction. Some projects in the 'Systems' division have recently been struggling with problems. Group CEO Reuter admitted that managers in the systems business had relied too much on external partners. One supplier even went bankrupt. In future, it will therefore be important to avoid dependence on external partners, said the spokeswoman. Nevertheless, the Group intends to stick to plant engineering.
