Kuka is acquiring a stake in the Munich-based company Device Insight. In doing so, the Augsburg-based robot manufacturer aims to strengthen the IoT expertise of its start-up subsidiary Connyun and broaden its own portfolio in this area.

Kuka CEO Dr. Till Reuter: "Connyun and Device Insight complement each other very well and with this step we are increasing our innovative strength in the area of Industry 4.0."

Device Insight specializes in IoT platforms within the automation industry and in the field of networked products. The Munich-based company's customers come from the fields of mechanical engineering, heating systems and industrial vehicles. Device Insight has been on the market since 2003, has almost 100 IoT experts and boasts almost 1 million connected devices to date. Kuka, on the other hand, is contributing its automation know-how to the partnership through its subsidiary Connyun, which has expertise in big data, artificial intelligence and smart production solutions.

"We see this collaboration as a great opportunity for us to grow on an international level," says Reinhold Stammmeier, CEO and founder of Device Insight. His company has already been working with Connyun on various projects for over a year. Among other things, machines in Kuka's own production facilities have been networked. The parties have agreed not to disclose the amount of the investment.
