Siemens takes over CD-Adapco
Siemens is buying the US software company CD-Adapco for around USD 970 million and integrating it into the PLM software business of its Digital Factory division. Siemens is thus further expanding its portfolio in the field of industrial software.
"Simulation software is critical to bringing better products to market faster and more cost-effectively," said Klaus Helmrich, member of the Siemens Managing Board, on the acquisition of the company. CD-Adapco is a global simulation software company with a unique vision for Multidisciplinary Design eXploration (MDX), as Siemens emphasizes. This simulation software enables a particularly reliable flow of information in the design process, which drives innovation and reduces production costs. Simulation tools from CD-Adapco - in particular the 'Star-CCM+' product - enable engineers to develop better designs faster. CD-Adapco currently has over 3,200 customers worldwide. The software is currently used by 14 of the 15 largest automotive manufacturers, the top 10 suppliers to the aerospace industry and nine of the ten largest manufacturers in the energy and marine sectors. According to Siemens, the company's solutions cover a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines such as fluid dynamics (CFD), solid mechanics (CSM), heat transfer, particle dynamics, material throughput, electrochemistry and acoustics.
CD-Adapco is headquartered in Melville, New York, USA. It was founded in 1980 and had over 900 employees in the last financial year. Its turnover was around 200 million US dollars with double-digit margins, which is typical for the software industry. Over the past three financial years, the company has increased its turnover by an average of more than 12% annually.
