Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for Renate Pilz
On January 23, Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, presented Renate Pilz with the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon, awarded by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for her exceptional entrepreneurial and social commitment.
"You are a very special entrepreneurial personality from Baden-Württemberg," said the Minister in her laudatory speech. "After the tragic death of your husband in 1975, you took over his medium-sized business - without any prior technical or economic knowledge - and turned it into a global player in automation and safety technology. This great commitment is now receiving the recognition it deserves. With over 3000 products, Pilz GmbH & Co KG is today a flagship of Baden-Württemberg precision and a highly respected ambassador for our state in the world."
In her company, Renate Pilz has focused entirely on innovation and internationalization. For Renate Pilz, innovation was never just a question of technology. "Taking people on board, convincing and training them and maintaining the family spirit of the company even as a global player: That was your corporate philosophy, which is also practiced today by your children, who have since succeeded you," explained the Minister.
Renate Pilz was born in Göppingen in 1940. When her husband, entrepreneur Peter Pilz, died in a plane crash in 1975, she took over his medium-sized business. Under her leadership, the company expanded from 200 employees to around 2,500 employees in 42 subsidiaries worldwide, including over 1,000 at the headquarters in Ostfildern. At the end of 2017, Renate Pilz handed over the management of the company to her children Susanne Kunschert and Thomas Pilz.
