Siemens buys edge technology from Pixeom
Siemens is planning to acquire the edge technology of the company Pixeom. The aim is to expand the Industrial Edge offering with software components for Edge Runtime and device management.
Pixeom is about to be acquired by Siemens. The Group is planning to acquire the US company's edge technologies. Siemens would like to use this to expand its Industrial Edge offering with software components for the runtime environment of apps (Edge Runtime) and for device management.
Siemens Industrial Edge will create an ecosystem through which apps can be made available. For example, suitable apps can be used to analyze data locally on the machine and send relevant data to the superimposed Industrial Edge Management System for global analyses.
The acquisition is related to the planned expansion of the Siemens Digital Enterprise portfolio and the integration of future technologies for the digital transformation of industry. Siemens intends to use the technology in its Factory Automation division, which is part of Siemens Digital Industries.
Pixeom, with locations in San José, California and Udaipur, India, employs 81 people worldwide. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019. Both companies agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.
