The Industrial Internet of Things or Industry 4.0 is changing factories and production processes. Computer networks and machinery are increasingly merging into one unit in the course of these transformations. For companies, this means bridging the gap between IT and OT (Operational Technology).

Kontron has recognized this development and offers targeted solutions. Powerful embedded computers integrate seamlessly into a network and can perform a wide range of tasks on the machines - from machine control and data pre-processing to data analysis using artificial intelligence. The continuous increase in processor speed and memory capacity will ensure that there is always sufficient computing power available in embedded computers at the 'intelligent edge'.

New possibilities through virtual exchange

Kontron sees several advantages in the virtual exchange with customers and users: customers and users receive information directly at their workplace, even if they are working from home. In addition, information can be accessed at any time and virtual meetings can be scheduled at short notice if necessary, as there is no need to organize travel and meeting rooms. The elimination of travel times and costs are also positive aspects. In addition, the range and frequency of customer and user exchanges can be significantly increased.

Focus areas for the next 12 months

In the coming months, Kontron will continue to consistently pursue its path of offering more computing power at the edge. The company will continue to expand its modules, boards and systems with the latest processor platforms on X86, ARM and Raspberry Pi. Users can also expect products for the new COM-HPC standard for high-performance Edge client and server applications. There will also be an expansion of the portfolio towards tools and services for the SUSiEtec software framework together with innovative solutions for TSN, OPC UA, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
