Profibus and Profinet in 2015
Last year, 3 million Profinet devices were launched on the market worldwide, according to the annual survey of the installed portfolio of Profibus & Profinet International (PI). This means that the annual figure for Profinet has surpassed that of Profibus for the first time.
With the addition of 3 million Profinet nodes, the total number of installed devices at the end of 2015 was 12.8 million - an increase of 30% compared to the previous year. The safe bus standard Profisafe also recorded 30% growth: 1.3 million nodes were added last year. The installed base now stands at 5.5 million Profisafe nodes. The growth curve therefore remains at a high level, according to PI. IO-Link experienced the largest increase over the year at 63%. The total number of installed IO-Link devices currently stands at more than 3.6 million, while only around 2.8 million Profibus devices were launched on the market in 2015. In total, over 50 million Profibus nodes are installed in industrial plants worldwide.
