Stemmer Imaging acquires stake in software provider
Stemmer Imaging has acquired a strategic stake in the Austrian company Perception Park, a software provider for hyperspectral imaging (HSI). The company will be consolidated retroactively as of October 1, 2018.
The expertise of Perception Park, based in Graz, Austria, lies in the software technology Chemical Color Imaging (CCI). Using the intuitively configurable data processing platform 'Perception System & Studio' developed by the company, complex hyperspectral data at molecular level is made usable for industrial image processing. The areas of application of the technology extend across the food processing industry, mining, the healthcare sector and the recycling sector. Compared to conventional image processing systems, hyperspectral systems offer an entire spectrum per object pixel instead of a monochrome or color value. In this way, high-precision color coordinates, chemical material properties or layer thickness information can be derived from the data obtained.
Customers have been benefiting from the intensified cooperation between Stemmer Imaging and Perception Park since January 2016. With this investment, the German machine vision provider is expanding its product portfolio to include a future technology with high growth potential in the market. "We are also strengthening our location in Graz, where we founded our wholly owned subsidiary in Austria at the beginning of June. This investment is therefore primarily of a strategic nature," says Lars Böhrnsen, CFO of Stemmer Imaging. The purchase price is in the low single-digit millions.
