Overview of IoT projects worldwide
IOT Analytics has summarized and evaluated data and facts from over 640 industrial IoT projects worldwide in a list. Most IoT projects are running in America, with Europeans leading the way in only one segment.
The market research company IOT Analytics GmbH from Hamburg has compiled and analyzed more than 640 industrial IoT use cases from around the world in a file. Each of these IoT projects was publicly announced. The individual IoT projects were assigned to four economic regions - America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East and Africa. This revealed that IoT projects are currently underway in over 60 countries and that more than 300 companies are involved as providers of IoT hardware, software and networking.
The frequency of IoT projects in the ten segments:
- networked industry,
- smart city,
- smart energy,
- connected car,
- agriculture,
- building automation,
- health,
- retail,
- supply chain and
- others,
reflects the interests of the dominant industries in the economic regions and the societies there with astonishing clarity. For example, IoT projects on the topic of "smart energy" are more important in the Asia-Pacific region than in Europe. In contrast, the smart supply chain only plays a subordinate role in Asia-Pacific.
IOT Analytics was able to assign the largest share of the IoT projects surveyed to the "networked industry" segment with over 140, which corresponds to a share of 22%. Most IoT projects in this segment, 43%, are carried out in America, followed by Europe in second place with a share of 30% and Asia-Pacific with 20%. The dominance of American IoT projects - more than 280 IoT projects - is even more pronounced in other segments. For example, in the healthcare (61%), supply chain (57%) and retail (52%) segments. The rates of IoT projects in Europe in these three segments are 30%, 35% and 30% respectively. By contrast, there is little interest in these three topics in the Asia-Pacific region.
Europe focuses on the "smart city"
More than 280 of the over 640 professional IoT projects are running in North America, which plays the dominant role in nine of the ten segments.
© IoT Analytics GmbHAcross the ten IoT segments, the evaluation of IoT projects shows a surprisingly even level of interest in the topic areas in Europe. Only the "smart city" segment - which ranks second with a 20% share - is being worked on particularly intensively in Europe. 47% of global IoT projects relating to the smart city take place in Europe. In contrast, there is less interest in Europe in the topic of "smart energy", which is still in third place with a 13% share of global IoT projects. It is also the only segment in which more IoT projects are carried out in the Asia-Pacific region than in Europe.
Current IoT business ecosystem
For the list, IOT Analytics has only included professional IoT projects that have either already been realized or are currently in the completion phase. For most IoT projects, contact to the end user can be established via the list and a link to an online project description is provided. The information on the IoT projects in the list is structured according to five criteria:
- Use case details,
- end users,
- promised benefits of the IoT application,
- IoT infrastructure and
- Classification of use cases.
According to Knud Lasse Lueth, founder and CEO of IOT Analytics GmbH, the database of the global IoT project list enables a deep understanding of the current IoT business ecosystem. It would be an important basis for anyone who wants to look behind the IoT hype. The list costs 749 US dollars and can be ordered via the IOT Analytics website.
