3D printing in our sights
Trumpf and Siemens want to drive forward the industrialization of additive manufacturing. Together, the companies want to develop a software solution for 3D printers from Trumpf.
At the Formnext trade fair in Frankfurt, laser system manufacturer Trumpf and Siemens announced a partnership. The aim is to industrialize the laser metal fusion (LMF) process - and thus firmly anchor the additive manufacturing of metal parts in the production process. The two companies are pooling their expertise and working together on a software solution for the data preparation of parts for 3D printing. The aim is to simplify the process for the powder bed-based LMF method for 3D printers from Trumpf and integrate it into the NX software from Siemens. The solution thus ranges from development and design to data preparation of components for 3D printing and is offered with TruPrint LMF printers from Trumpf.
In terms of 3D printing, Siemens announced its collaboration with Hewlett Packard in July, followed by the acquisition of Material Solutions in August.
The voices on the agreement
"With our joint software solution, we offer customers consistently high process reliability through an intelligent process chain," explains Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens PLM Software. "Since the tools for development, simulation, 3D printing and NC programming for metal parts are combined in one system, no data conversion will be necessary."
"These are crucial factors for the industrial application of additive manufacturing," adds Peter Leibinger, Chairman of Trumpf Laser- und Systemtechnik. "The result of our partnership is an optimal interaction between machine and software so that customers can benefit from AM-optimized designs and additive manufacturing."
