"Jump!" - This was the motto under which over 12,000 young researchers had registered for the 53rd round of the 'Jugend forscht' competition for young researchers since July 2018. Of these, 182 pupils qualified for the national final with their 105 research projects. In Darmstadt at the end of May 2018, they presented their projects in the fields of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology. Computer&AUTOMATION presents a selection of the ideas and projects with which they were successful this year:

This year's award winners "impressively demonstrate how much talent, thirst for knowledge and creative power there is in our young scientists," said Anja Karliczek, Federal Minister of Education and Research, in her laudatory speech on May 27, 2018. "We need young people in Germany who have the courage to think in new ways. People who have ideas and the determination to create something good for everyone in our society. I am delighted for each and every one of the award winners. They have the full backing of our country to courageously pursue their promising path in science and research." This year's national competition was organized by the Jugend forscht Foundation and the science and technology company Merck.
