Research competition

Davina Spohn,

Clear the way for 'Jugend forscht 2020'!

Under the motto "You can do it!", the 'Jugend forscht' competition is entering a new round: for the 55th time, young people are invited to present their innovative research projects - in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.

The same applies to this new round of 'Jugend forscht': if you want to take part, you don't have to be a second Einstein, but you should be passionate about research and experimentation.

The Jugend forscht foundation wants to encourage young researchers to take up the challenge and assume responsibility for society. "Because it depends on every single STEM talent, on their commitment, on a small and large scale. The motto "You can do it!" applies to them all. Be curious and inventive, develop your own ideas and solutions for the world of tomorrow!" - says the foundation's call for entries. Children and young people up to the age of 21 can take part in the competition. Younger pupils must be in at least 4th grade in the year of registration. Students may not be in more than their first year of study. The deadline for these requirements is December 31, 2019. Individuals as well as teams of two or three are eligible. Registration for the new round is possible until November 30, 2019. As with the winners in the previous round, there are no predefined tasks for 'Jugend forscht'. The research topic is freely chosen. However, it is important that the question can be assigned to one of the seven subject areas: The world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology.

The topic and a brief description of the project are sufficient to register online. In January 2020, participants must submit a written elaboration. The regional competitions will then take place nationwide from February 2020. Those who win here will compete at state level. There, the best will qualify for the national final at the end of May 2020. Cash and non-cash prizes with a total value of over one million euros will be awarded at all three competition levels.
