This year's competition aims to encourage young people to be curious and look for answers to their own questions. They can register for 'Jugend forscht 2019' online until November 30, 2018.

The Jugend forscht foundation emphasizes that if you want to take part, you don't have to be a second Einstein, but you do have to be passionate about researching, inventing and experimenting. Jugend forscht wants to encourage young researchers - school pupils, trainees and students - to take up the challenge and develop their own research project. The following applies to every STEM talent: "Have the courage and ask yourself! Look for the answers to your questions yourself and show what you can do!"

Children and young people up to the age of 21 can take part in the young talent competition. Younger pupils must be in at least 4th grade in the year of registration. Students must be in their first year of study at the most. The deadline for these requirements is December 31, 2018. Individuals as well as teams of two or three are eligible. Registration for the new round is possible until November 30, 2018. There are no predefined tasks in the competition. As in the previous round of the competition, participants are free to choose their own research topic. However, it is important that the question can be assigned to one of the seven Jugend-forscht subject areas: The world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology.

The topic and a brief description of the project are sufficient to register online. In January 2019, participants must submit a written elaboration. The regional competitions will then take place nationwide from February 2019. Those who win here will compete at state level. There, the best will qualify for the national final at the end of May 2019. Cash and non-cash prizes with a total value of over 1 million euros will be awarded at all three competition levels.
