Recommendations for training occupations

Training in the metal and electrical industry needs to be updated in order to be suitable for I4.0, but no new job profiles are required for this - according to Gesamtmetall, VDMA, ZVEI and IG Metall as social partners for training and qualification in the M+E industry.

Instead of new job profiles, the aim is to add new content to the curricula, for example the topic of data security. To this end, the training regulations for industrial metal and electrical professions are to be revised as part of a partial amendment. This is the only way to ensure that digital work can be handled successfully in the future. Additional qualifications are to be provided for further requirements in individual professions. This has been proposed by Gesamtmetall, VDMA, ZVEI and IG Metall as social partners for training and qualification in the M+E industry in jointly developed recommendations for action.

In addition, the responsible social partners consider it important to provide implementation aids for training in the context of digitalization and Industry 4.0 and to develop didactic and media technology concepts for schools and companies.

The proposals are now to be coordinated with the responsible federal ministries and decision-makers and implemented quickly in an "agile" process. According to the four partners involved, the aim should be for companies to be able to offer training in the updated professions from August 2018.

In spring 2016, Gesamtmetall, VDMA, ZVEI and IG Metall agreed in a social partner agreement to examine the Industry 4.0-relevant training occupations and further training in the M+E sector with regard to the requirements of digitalization. After just under a year, the results are now available in the form of joint recommendations for action. These were discussed with representatives from companies, vocational schools and academia and developed after evaluating existing studies.
