The Maturity Index

Many companies do not tackle the topic of Industry 4.0 because they lack a strategy guide. Acatech wants to fill this gap with the 'Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index'.

The 'Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index' is based on a multidimensional maturity model. Using this model, companies can analyze their status quo and derive their Industry 4.0 strategy. The index was developed by a consortium of research institutions and companies under the umbrella of Acatech.

At the same time, the 'Industrie 4.0 Maturity Center' was founded in Aachen. It advises companies on the application of the Maturity Index and bundles the follow-up activities as an open and neutral platform.

"There is a spirit of optimism. The target image of Industry 4.0 is shared by many and is in great demand internationally. Companies are now looking for their individual implementation strategy. Our Industry 4.0 Maturity Index provides them with neutral, freely available analysis tools. The Industrie 4.0 Maturity Center is a contact point for anyone who wants to use this guide," said Acatech President Henning Kagermann.

Guidelines and case studies

The 'Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index' looks at companies from a technological, organizational and cultural perspective. Six development stages show how data can be obtained, analyzed and made usable in the company. The approach takes into account the multidimensionality of Industry 4.0 in the interplay of information systems, resources, company organization and corporate culture.

Case studies show how the Maturity Index supports the transformation to an Industry 4.0 company: A company reduces machine failures by networking the devices involved so that potential maintenance requirements are indicated at an early stage. A technology company saves time and costs by linking digital processes in product development through a digital control center. The Acatech study is available free of charge in German and English.
