Inka Krischke,

Micrometer-precise distance measurement

OndoSense has developed a radar sensor for distance measurement which, according to the company, also measures reliably in industrial environments with dirt, smoke, oil mist or adverse lighting conditions.

The OndoSense apex offers a measuring accuracy of up to 1 µm and a measuring frequency of 300 Hertz; its measuring range is specified as 0.1 to 50 m. IO-Link, RS485, an analog current interface (4 to 20 mA) and three digital switching outputs (PNP/NPN) for data transmission to the machine controller (PLC) are available as interfaces. The aperture angle of the radar lens is 4°. The browser-based configuration software of the radar sensor with intuitive user interface offers numerous features that simplify the commissioning of the sensor. For example, the reflections (peaks) of the radar signal can be visualized in the software. Smart 'peak selection' algorithms allow the desired target object to be selected at the click of a mouse and other targets to be hidden. The peaks can be sorted according to signal strength or distance.
