Condition monitoring for gliding energy chain systems

The i.Sense EC.W service life sensor from Igus for gliding energy chain systems enables real-time wear detection and can be connected directly to the PLC machine controller without an internet connection thanks to integrated, potential-free contacts.

The sensor can be connected to various networks and IoT systems via the 'i.Cee' module and thus integrated into a predictive maintenance concept. It is available for the E4.32, E4.42, E4.56 and E4.80 energy chains - further sizes are planned. The basic principle is simple: conductive elements are inserted into the high-performance polymers of almost all Igus products at the tribologically stressed points. This allows statements to be made about the percentage of product service life in the event of electrical interruption or change in resistance. The i.Sense EC.W sensor is mounted on the last opening bar on the fixed point side and records the current condition of the chain side parts. It measures the distance between the opening stays, which decreases in the same ratio as the abrasion of the energy chain side parts.
