Award for Automation in Agriculture
igus wins DLG Innovation Award for 'ReBeL Cobot'
The German Agricultural Society (DLG) has awarded the "Systems & Components Trophy - Engineers' Choice" to the 'ReBeL Cobot' from igus. The compact robotic arm is designed to enable cost-effective automation in agriculture.
The plastics specialist igus is one of the winners of the "Systems & Components Trophy - Engineers' Choice" of the German Agricultural Society (DLG). The prize was awarded to the 'ReBeL Cobot', a robot arm weighing around 8 kg and made from maintenance-free high-performance plastics. It is designed for simple automation tasks such as harvesting, sorting or plant care and can be equipped with various sensors, cameras and gripping tools. Free software supports users with programming and integration into existing processes. In future, the cobot will meet protection class IP67 in order to remain operational even under difficult environmental conditions.
"With the ReBeL, farmers can increase their productivity, maximize crop yields and minimize losses that can occur due to a lack of labour, for example," says André Schönhaar, Sector Manager Agricultural Technology at igus.
With the "Systems & Components Trophy", the DLG recognizes components and systems that contribute to the further development of agricultural technology through innovative or significantly improved concepts. A jury of experts headed by Prof. Dr. Till Meinel (TH Cologne) selected the ReBeL as one of three winning projects from 41 submissions.
