The Pilz Group had to take the global crises and upheavals into account in the 2020 financial year. However, the company is looking to the coming months with confidence.

Pilz recorded sales of 286.2 million euros for the 2020 financial year, a decrease of 11.3% compared to the previous year. "Our business activities last year were particularly affected by the crisis caused by coronavirus," explains Susanne Kunschert, Managing Partner of Pilz.

"We can look back on 2020 as a year that demanded a great deal from our company and our employees. But together, we have managed to withstand the crises and stand our ground," explains Susanne Kunschert, Managing Partner of Pilz.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Pilz's markets shrank in all major industrialized countries in Central Europe as well as in parts of the Far East. The decline affected all product areas - from control and drive technology to sensor technology and the operating and monitoring division. Services in the area of machine safety were also affected, as access to the customer's machine was not possible or only possible to a very limited extent for a long time due to lockdown and travel restrictions.

The number of employees worldwide was 2,440 as at the reporting date of December 31, 2020, a decrease of 4.2 %. In Germany, the number of employees fell by 3.4% - from 1128 to 1091 (31.12.2020). This decline is based exclusively on retirements and natural fluctuation. Layoffs due to the global economic crisis were avoided.

As a result of increased global marketing and sales activities, the company was able to further increase its export share. This now stands at 75.2% (+ 0.9 percentage points compared to 2019).

Even though the order situation has stabilized in recent months, more precise economic forecasts for 2021 remain difficult due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Nevertheless, I am looking forward to 2021 with confidence and strength! I am full of confidence that we will master the year well," emphasizes Susanne Kunschert.
