Remote maintenance and edge computing combined
Remote monitoring and edge computing can now be easily combined: MB connect line presents a solution comprising a remote service portal, industrial router and edge computing software.
Nowadays, remote maintenance solutions must meet two essential functional requirements: "Firstly, it is important to capture all the relevant data required for a complete image of a process or machine," explains Siegfried Müller, Managing Director of MB connect line. "Secondly, service personnel must be able to access the system transparently from a distance using tools such as PLC programming environments."
MB connect line offers a flexible system based on the 'mbConnect24' remote service portal and the 'mbNet.rokey' industrial router. Together with the 'mbEdge' modular software system, the router becomes an IIoT/edge gateway that covers applications ranging from data acquisition, pre-processing and visualization to global remote diagnostics and remote maintenance.
Via the remote service portal, the service staff have an overview of all machines and can establish a connection to the machine in question at the click of a mouse. Within seconds, the service team receives comprehensive diagnostic messages and fault information about the machine. Depending on the fault situation, the service personnel can check the PLC program and update it if necessary - or instruct the operating personnel on site as to which switches or valves could be the cause of the fault and should be checked.
In addition to eliminating acute faults, capturing a complete machine image using data technology enables predictive maintenance to be planned. Dashboards can also be created, allowing the plant manager to read the current production figures or the operating hours counter - or to inform the operating personnel of an impending material shortage.
