Edge gateways: an alternative to the PLC
Autosen has expanded the range of functions of the io-key: as a fully-fledged edge gateway, the system continues to transmit sensor data to the cloud, but can also carry out alarm and switching processes.
The corresponding values are set in the cloud and executed autonomously and in real time, regardless of the transmission interval. According to the provider, this makes the system an economical and flexible alternative to conventional PLCs.
In combination with a visual control interface in the 'autosen.cloud', the edge gateway makes it possible to get started with edge technology. With an unchanged basic configuration - 'io-key' receives sensor data via IO-Link and transmits it to the cloud via mobile communications - the user has the option of initiating alarm and switching processes in the connected 'io-keys'. Once activated, these can also take place independently of the cloud or the transmission interval of the sensor data in real time. A total of four switching outputs are available for this purpose, for each of which the condition or rule is set in the 'autosen.cloud'.
Hysteresis and a switch-on and switch-off delay are also possible.
Programming knowledge is not required for the Edge application; settings are made by drag-and-drop in the automatically generated, customer-invidual environment of 'autosen.cloud'.
