Teamviewer cooperates with Google

Google Glass computer glasses have not been able to establish themselves with the mass public. However, there are a number of commercial application scenarios for the augmented reality solution. Now the Swabian software company Teamviewer is also relying on Google glasses.

The software provider Teamviewer from Göppingen will cooperate with Google in future to bring its augmented reality solutions to the Google Cloud. This will enable retailers and grocery stores to process online orders more quickly, the two companies announced on Tuesday.

Augmented reality is the interaction of a digital and analog environment. With Google Glass, users are not completely cut off from their normal environment as with virtual reality glasses. Instead, additional information about the environment is displayed in the glasses. For example, a warehouse worker can be shown on which shelf a particular spare part can be found.

With the first 'Assisted Order Picking' application developed jointly by Teamviewer and Google, employees can prepare an online order for dispatch while keeping their hands free. The ordered goods or groceries are displayed in the 'Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2' glasses. The employee can then record the goods using a scanner that is worn on the finger like a ring. The Teamviewer software 'Vision Picking' is also used for this.

Picking efficiency is increased by 15 to 40 %, explained Teamviewer manager Alfredo Patron. The application is connected to the order processing systems of retailers and grocery stores, which means that the stock is updated in real time. "In the near future, we want to expand our partnership and use the technology to improve manufacturing, field service and supply chain processes in other industries."
