FlexPai'
First foldable smartphone presented
The Royole Corporation has unveiled the 'FlexPai', the world's first commercially available foldable smartphone. The innovation is intended to overcome the existing incompatibility of mobility and a large screen.
According to manufacturer Royole, the new device, which is a combination of a cell phone and tablet, goes beyond the conventional ideas that users have of a smartphone. As it can be used folded or unfolded, it combines the advantage of the mobility of a smartphone with the size of a tablet screen in HD resolution. The foldable FlexPai smartphone is produced using Royole's Flexible+ platform, which can be seamlessly integrated into a wide range of products and applications in various industries. "The Royole FlexPai foldable smartphone is a breakthrough innovation compared to the traditional cell phone," said Royole founder and CEO Dr. Bill Liu. "It completely overcomes the previous incompatibility of mobility and a large screen with HD quality and takes a leap into a new era of human-machine interfaces. The design principle of the device will contribute to a lasting change in consumer electronics as well as in the way people communicate with each other and perceive the world."
When unfolded, it supports split-screen mode and multitasking as well as cross-application drag-and-drop with computer-like functionality and automatic screen resizing.
When folded, the FlexPai is capable of dual-screen functionality with simultaneous and independent operation. The primary and secondary screen interfaces can interact with each other or can be operated independently without affecting each other. Similarly, the user can receive notifications on the sidebar at the edge of the screen to manage calls, messages and other notifications that would otherwise interfere with the use of the primary and secondary screens.
FlexPai's screen is a complete, fully flexible display that is light, thin, colorful and bendable. According to the manufacturer, FlexPai can withstand over 200,000 bending, torsion and tensile tests and can also be folded at different angles. Water's unique operating system automatically adapts the viewing mode to the various folding angles and different application areas such as photography, office, video playback or gaming.
FlexPai uses the latest technology from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 SoC series, which combines the most powerful AI with the most advanced chip processor technology. The camera has a 20 MP telephoto lens and a 16 MP wide-angle lens, and thanks to the dual-view mode, normal photos and selfies are possible. According to Royole, the company's own Ro-Charge technology ensures a 40 percent faster fast-charging function. Other features include micro SD expandable memory, a finger scanner, USB-C charging and stereo speakers.
