According to Hexagon, the SmarScan VR800 is the first optical 3D scanner on the market to feature a motorized zoom lens that allows the user to fully adjust the data resolution and measurement volume via software settings. The scanner is flexible due to the combination of two stereo camera setups and an optical zoomable projection. Three new software functions - Smart Resolution, Smart Zoom and Smart Snap - make it possible to adjust the resolution and measurement volume without mechanical changes to the system. This allows data-intensive high-resolution scans to be concentrated on the areas with the most important features, while other areas can be captured more efficiently with larger and/or lower-resolution scans. The system's integrated control unit ensures fast pre-processing of the scan data in the device. A custom-built carbon fiber frame provides thermal stability and allows for longer intervals between calibrations.
