Hexagon at the Hannover Messe
Manufacturing with cloud technology
Hexagon has announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft aimed at transforming collaboration across the value chain and using digital twins to accelerate product innovation.
Hexagon and Microsoft aim to empower the discrete manufacturing industry with new solutions to combine data from virtual engineering processes with real-world measurements of manufactured products and innovate faster. Manufacturing and engineering systems - including Microsoft 365 - will be connected in Hexagon's digital reality platform 'Nexus', helping users to increase productivity through cloud-accelerated simulation and AI.
The two companies have worked closely together to develop and scale 'Open-Source Fluid Framework' and 'Azure Fluid Relay'. This supports real-time data exchange across a wide range of processes and systems in the manufacturing industry - data created in one system is instantly available to any other person or machine in another system. As part of the new partnership, the Microsoft 365 ecosystem will be integrated into this data layer, allowing customers to connect their daily office documents and processes with tools. This will allow teams to innovate with the programs they already use. For example, tool cost data from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet could be shared with a CAM programmer, simplifying workflows and decision making. Microsoft Teams calls can become interactive work sessions where CAD, simulations or metrology point clouds are seamlessly visualized from the source data. This enables fast, iterative teamwork across different development and manufacturing functions. Hexagon has already demonstrated this capability in its 3D whiteboard tool Nexus, which is now also available as a native app in Teams.
