Now is the right time for him to step down as CEO, explains the company's current CEO and co-founder, Dr. James Truchard. "It has always been my goal to make National Instruments a company that lasts," says Truchard. "In the face of a weak industrial economy, over the last decade in particular, I have worked to ensure that we make long-term strategic investments that prepare NI for future growth. I believe that investments in key areas such as PXI modular instrumentation, RF instrumentation, CompactRIO and our overall software platform will expand our long-term market opportunities. Given our many new products, many of which were unveiled at the recent NIWeek, I believe NI is well positioned for the coming decade."

Mr. Davern has been NI's Chief Financial Officer since 1997 and Chief Operating Officer since 2010. As part of his move to the top of the company, a new CFO is now being sought. This is expected to be determined by the end of 2016.
