National Instruments
Laboratory for the Industrial Internet of Things opened
National Instruments (NI) has opened the 'NI Industrial IoT Lab' at its headquarters in Austin, Texas. It is intended to bring together providers of technologies and solutions that combine Operational Technology (OT) with Information Technology (IT) to create the IIoT.
The current focus of the 'NI Industrial IoT Lab' is on the development of control and communication systems for microgrids, control systems for manufacturing and monitoring systems for critical machines and systems. It is designed in such a way that it can also be flexibly adapted to future requirements.
The lab is intended to promote cooperation between companies in order to ensure the interoperability of the various technologies. Developers of communication protocols, controller hardware, I/O components, processors and software work together to validate comprehensive solutions that will fundamentally change future operating processes. In addition to NI, sponsors of the lab include Analog Devices, the Avnu Alliance, Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), Intel, Kalypso, the OPC Foundation, OSIsoft, PTC, Real-Time Innovations (RTI), SparkCognition, Semikron, Viewpoint Systems and Xilinx.
"A model lab like this, which demonstrates new technologies in action, gives the participating companies the opportunity to work together to drive breakthrough innovation in different areas such as power, manufacturing technology and asset condition monitoring," explains Jamie Smith, Business and Technology Director at NI.
The 'NI Industrial IoT Lab' also serves as a practical demonstration of technologies, solutions and system architectures for the Industrial IoT. Using demo systems such as the IIC's testbeds, participating companies will be able to showcase their solutions and work with domain experts to overcome real-world challenges.
