With the help of a laser beam, characteristic sound spectra of a unit to be monitored (e.g. high-performance pump, motor, gearbox, machine, drive unit, turbine) are recorded in a frequency range from infra- to ultrasound in the MHz range using interference measurements. The structure-borne sound generated during operation is then analyzed using mathematical algorithms. Level differences between the current evaluated signal and a reference signal are intended to indicate a material defect in the monitored component. According to the manufacturer, this enables material changes to be detected at an early stage and total failure to be avoided.
