Jumo
A year of restrictions
"Getting off lightly" - this is how Managing Director Dimitrios Charisiadis summarizes the past few months for Jumo in a virtual press conference. The outlook for the company's future is optimistic.

However, the forecast for the current year is positive, which is underpinned by a look at the order intake (as at August 31, 2021): There is an increase of 36% compared to the crisis year 2020 and 21% compared to 2019. Turnover (also as at 31.08.2021) is also up 17% on 2020 and 7% on 2019.
Jumo has clear strategic goals for the future, as Managing Director Michael Juchheim explains: "On the one hand, we will supplement and round off our portfolio with new metrics based on a very clear industry focus. Secondly, as a solution provider for the automation industry, we want to drive forward the digitalization of our customers. The third pillar of growth is the expansion of service and training offerings for our customers."
Two new products presented at the press conference illustrate what digitalization can look like. The first is a wireless addition to the Jumo automation system family called Varitron 300 and the second is the browser-based software solution Smartware Evaluation.
Varitron 300 provides users with a smart solution for simple automation applications. The device is based on the 'Jumo Jupiter' platform and uses numerous features of this embedded system. It is based on a CPU with an 800 MHz single-core processor. The software has a modular structure on a Linux platform and uses the Codesys V3.5 programming environment SP16. The central processing unit offers a USB host, two Ethernet interfaces and an RS485 connection as connection options. Up to 32 wireless Jumo Wtrans sensors can be connected via a wireless gateway, for example for measuring temperature or pressure. Connection modules with configurable analogue inputs and self-sufficient PID controllers with self-optimization function can be connected using a specially developed 1-port router. The company provides visualization libraries for individual customer-specific operation via Codesys Remote TargetVisu or Codesys WebVisu.
Intuitively evaluate and visualize process data
The browser-based software solution Smartware Evaluation enables intuitive evaluation and visualization of process data from the Varitron automation system. Individual dashboards allow quick access to recorded process data. Tamper detection based on digital certificates ensures a high level of data security.

It can be accessed via standard web browsers. Once set up, the software solution enables an unlimited number of users to evaluate and visualize up to 1500 signals.
An intuitive device and system overview enables quick navigation and selection of dashboards. It is also possible to search for and evaluate batches across different systems. The dashboards can be customized.
As far as data security is concerned, the recorded raw data from the Varitron 300 or 500 is securely transferred to a datastore and archived via Rest API using the data diode principle. The traceability of the recorded data is also ensured in the event of a configuration change or device replacement. Evaluation takes place in a separate area (Dataview) and is supported by tamper detection based on digital certificates, so that process data requiring verification can be reliably provided for critical audits.
Jumo is also breaking new ground in terms of planning and cost security. Billing is based on a license model and is based on the number of signals required. The model is freely scalable and there are no fees per user.
