AI on the machine tool

Siemens is expanding its Industrial Edge offering for the machine tool-related 'Sinumerik Edge' with additional applications. The Edge application 'Analyze MyWorkpiece/Vision' is based on artificial intelligence.

It uses a camera image to detect whether the correct workpiece is in the correct position in the machining area. If the workpiece is positioned correctly, machining can be started. In addition to monitoring the machining area, tool wear can also be checked. The Siemens application also transmits the machining process on the workpiece live from the machine room via camera and documents all image data.

The optimization algorithm underlying 'Optimize MyMachining/ Magazine' is based on AI and calculates the tool arrangement in such a way that production time is minimized. In the area of improved machine productivity, the new application complements the edge application 'Optimize MyMachining/Trochoidal'.

The edge application 'Protect My Machine/3D Twin' includes comprehensive protection of the machine and tools against the current clamping situation, including dynamic consideration of workpiece protection.

Finally, 'Manage MySinumerik Edge' is an industrial edge management solution for the administration of edge applications for the machine tool. It can be used to centrally manage, monitor and update all connected edge devices.
